Phonics/
writing
This week we had our first phonic lessons and
learn the sounds, actions and letter formation of the letters ‘Ss’ and ‘Mm’.
We painted both letters and played a game with the purpose of matching the
initial sound starting in ‘s’ and ‘m’ with various objects.
Next week, our phonic lessons will focus on
learning the sounds, actions and letter formation of the letters ‘Cc’ and ‘Tt’.
We will play a review game at the end of the week to review both sounds ‘C’
and ‘T’.
Math
We played ‘estimating games’. This
is a fantastic way for children to learn number representation and number
quantity through hands on activities.
Next week, we will focus on number
formation. Depending on each child’s ability will practice tracing and
writing numbers from 1-10 /1-20 through various mediums.
PSED
We talked about sharing and taking
turns and how we can play together in harmony.
Next week, we will talk about
‘kindness’. What is ‘kindness’? What does it mean to be kind?
Science
This week the children were
introduced to the topic of our 5 senses. We learned about our sense of touch
throughout the whole week. Each day the children explored a different aspect
of the sense of touch. We looked at different textures, sensations and to
finally conclude why we use and have a sense of touch. We use our sense of
touch to take care of ourselves and to stay safe.
Next week, we will review our sense
of touch and introduce the sense of ‘sight’.
Art
In Art this week we linked our
science lessons with our Art lessons and played activities on the sense of
‘touch’.
Next week, we will continue to link
our science lessons with our Art lesson. For our first Art lesson we will
have a fun painting activity and paint blindfolded. This activity is a
fantastic way to explore and develop our senses. Without using our eyes how
can we see? Image? Recognize? For our second lesson we will play a vision
game by looking at images with optical illusions. This will be linked to the
making of binoculars.
Physical
We played a
walk sensory game using our senses of touch with our feet. Children walked on
a sensory path and had to describe the different sensations under their feet.
Next week, we will go outside and
trace and observe shadows. Children will trace the shadow of their classmates
and describe what they see.
