Phonics/
writing
This week, we reviewed all the sounds learned so far through games and continue to read simple words. We also focused on the camera words learned for this unit.
First week of half term, we will review all sounds and camera words. For our writing lessons we will practice writing camera words and make simple sentences.
Math
This week, the children were introduced to ‘addition’ through simple games.
In math, we will be introduced to the concept of ‘subtraction’, which means to take away something.
Inquiry
This week was a very exciting week celebrating Valentine’s Day and Chinese New Year. We made jellies and valentine’s day cards and made lanterns and learned about traditional Chinese stories for Chinese new Year.
Next half term, we will continue our cycle of inquiry based on ‘Understanding that patterns help us understand how the works’. To deepen our understanding we will look into the different cycles in life such as the life cycle of a butterfly. We will try to link that patterns are life cycles and repeats over time, to ultimately understand that the world is made of patterns. Patterns are on our clothes, on bugs, in music, in movements and in our world.
